In the ongoing World Cup, the Indian cricket team likes to pick the best fielder after each game. After India won against New Zealand in the first semifinal, they said Ravindra Jadeja did the best fielding, and the coach gave him a medal.
Unlike earlier instances where there was more excitement and drama during the announcement and presentation, this time it was a simpler affair. The official video from the Indian cricket team’s handle portrayed the straightforward nature of the moment.
Suryakumar Yadav gives a speech after Jadeja receives best fielder award
However, Suryakumar Yadav added a touch of charm by delivering a speech using lines from the famous Bollywood movie Bajirao Mastani. Describing Jadeja, Suryakumar recited, “Cheetah ki chaal, Baaj ki nazar aur Royal Navghan ki fielding se koi nahi bach sakta (No one can escape: Cheetah’s speed, Hawk’s vision, and Royal Navghan’s fielding.)”
Jadeja earned the title of the best fielder for his remarkable catches under pressure. The first catch dismissed Glenn Philips, who was building towards a batting masterclass, at long on for 41 runs from 33 balls. The second victim, Mark Chapman, fell to Jadeja’s catch at long leg while attempting to sweep Kuldeep Yadav.
This wicket provided a significant confidence boost to the Indian team. The final blow was delivered with the catch of Daryl Mitchell, this time stationed at mid-wicket. Jadeja’s tame catch, by his standards, dismissed New Zealand’s centurion for 134 runs from 119 balls, sealing the deal for India.
Mohammed Shami got 7 wickets haul
Despite the Indian bowling attack encountering a challenge for the first time in the tournament, Mohammed Shami played a crucial role. Shami independently took down the top order, dismissing Conway and Ravindra in his initial spell, and later, Williamson and Latham in the subsequent one. With assistance from Bumrah and Kuldeep, India effectively navigated through the New Zealand batting order. Shami’s noteworthy performance concluded with a 7-wicket haul.
Next up, India will play against Australia in the final of the ODI World Cup at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
