Watch Funny Banter between Rohit Sharma and Umpire

The match witnessed a lot of moments that generated buzz and one of them occurred between skipper Rohit Sharma and on-field umpire Virender Sharma. During the second over of the match Rohit was heard in the stump mic saying:

“Hey Viru (Virender Sharma), did you give the first ball as thigh pad – It clearly touched the bat. I have already been dismissed for 0 twice,”

Guiding a delivery from Azmatullah Omarzai down the leg side, the ball touched the inside edge of his bat before hitting his pads and took a quick single. However, the umpire signalled it as leg bye and Rohit was quick to share his reaction with the umpire.

Earlier, in the first two matches of the series the opener had two ducks to his name.

After that, Rohit went on to score his fifth T20I century and became the first player to do so in the format. He surpassed Glenn Maxwell and Suryakumar Yadav’s in the list of most hundreds by batters in Men T20Is.

The Mumbaiker smashed unbeaten 121 off 69 including 11 fours and eight maximums. It marked his personal best T20I score and the fourth-highest individual score by an Indian batter in T20Is.

Earlier, Rohit opted to bat first after winning the toss as he wanted to try a batting lineup that will help them to make their right combination ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Rohit Sharma on T20 World Cup selection

In an interaction with Jio Cinema after Team India’s series win over Afghanistan, Rohit shed light on managing a wide talented player pool ahead of 2024 T20 World Cup. He said:

“As far as Rahul bhai and I are concerned, we have tried our best to maintain the clarity within the team and communicate clearly to the player as to why they are dropped. You cannot leep everyone happy. This is something I have learned while captaining the team. You have to focus on the team’s goals first,”

Rohit Sharma and his company will lock horns against England in the five-match Test series, starting from January 25 in Hyderabad.
