In the rain-marred opening fixture of SA20, MI Cape Town suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of their Durban Super Giants, who defeated MI by the margin of 11 runs, that too by DLS method.
The MI Cape Town posted a massive total of 207 runs in their first inning. Courtesy to some great batting by Ryan Rickleton, who opened the inning for Cape Town. He batted alongside Van der Dussen and took the team off to a flying start.
Ryan Rickleton scored fabulous fifty
After watching the ball closely for the first two overs, he opened the attack in the third by accumulating 16 runs just in boundaries. He took on Gleeson to show early intent. Owing to his flying start, MI Cape Town reached fifty runs in just 4.3 overs.
Two overs later, Dussen departed for the score of 24, but that didn’t pester Rickleton at all. He continued batting in the same fashion and went on to score a total of 87 runs in just 51 balls. His inning comprised 6 sixes and as many fours as well.
Later, some fireworks from captain Pollard saw MI Cape Town post a total in excess of 200 runs in their 20 overs.
Class inning by Klaasen
No score is big enough in T20, especially if you have the likes of Henrick Klassen in your team. The South African counterattacker came out all guns blazing for his team in the second inning.
Klaasen came on to bat when his team was struggling at 59 for 3 in just 6.1 overs. From there onwards he played the inning of a lifetime, by scoring 85 runs in just 35 balls for Durban Super Giants.
His inning included a total of 8 sixes and just 4 fours. This blitz of an inning saw Durban post 177 runs in just 16.3 overs. that is when the game was halted by the rain.
The umpires waited for the clouds to part and the game to resume. However, when that didn’t happen, the Duckworth Lewis Methos was put to use and according to the same, it was adjudged that DSG were 11 runs ahead of the target and were declared the winner of the contest.
With these four points, Durban Super Giants have climbed to the top of the points table of SA20 League 2024.
