Ashwin shared his thoughts on his YouTube channel, expressing that even if Rohit is no longer the captain, he is likely content to stay with the Mumbai Indians. Ashwin pointed out that at this stage in Rohit’s career, it’s not just about money or titles; it’s about being part of a team where he feels at home. He believes that Rohit, having led both India and MI for many years, might welcome a less stressful role while still contributing to the team.
“Even if you think like Rohit, it’s not wrong at all. ‘I don’t want any headache. I have been a captain for India. I have captained Mumbai many times. Even if I am not a captain, I am going to Mumbai happily. If I play for Mumbai, it’s super’. I am sure most players are like that. After a stage, money doesn’t matter for some of those players. That’s the thing,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel, as quoted by ANI.
Rohit had a strong performance in the 2024 IPL season, scoring 417 runs at an average of 32.07 and a strike rate of 150. His season included a century and a fifty, with his highest score being 105*. Despite his efforts, MI had a disappointing season, finishing at the bottom of the table with only four wins out of 14 matches. Even though the team struggled, Rohit’s individual performance showed that he remains a valuable player.
