In IPL 1, MI had three captains to lead the side: Sachin Tendulkar, Shaun Pollock, and Harbhajan Singh under different circumstances. Unfortunately, Sachin’s unavailability in a few matches due to injury, followed by Harbhajan Singh’s ‘slapgate’ episode and ensuing suspension, made the season quite turbulent for MI.

However, with Pollock’s help, MI’s performance improved drastically in the later-half of the tournament, as Mumbai finished fifth in the points table with 7 victories and 7 defeats, including three last-over losses, which kept them out of the semis by just one point.
