IPL 2024: Mumbai Indians (MI) are poised to receive a significant boost with the return of T20 stalwart Suryakumar Yadav, who has been cleared by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Scheduled to join the team on Friday, April 5, Yadav’s comeback is eagerly anticipated after a prolonged absence due to injury.
Having last featured in a competitive match against South Africa in December 2023, Yadav’s stellar performance, including a magnificent century in Johannesburg, was marred by a grade 2 ankle tear. Subsequent medical examinations revealed a sports hernia, necessitating surgery in Munich on January 17.
Following an intensive rehabilitation program at the NCA, the 33-year-old is primed to rejoin the five-time champions during their training session at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. With the upcoming home game against Delhi Capitals on Sunday, April 7, Yadav’s physical readiness will be assessed during training, with a decision on his participation in the fixture to follow suit.
Mumbai Indians have encountered a turbulent start to IPL 2024 under new captain Hardik Pandya, enduring three consecutive defeats and languishing at the bottom of the table. Both batting and bowling departments have faltered, amplifying the team’s struggles.
IPL 2024: Hopeless Mumbai Indians receive a big boost in the shape of Suryakumar Yadav
The impending return of Yadav, however, holds the promise of rejuvenating MI’s fortunes. With his vast experience, having featured in 139 IPL matches and amassed 3,249 runs at an average of 31.85 and a striking 143.32, Yadav’s impact transcends mere statistics. His T20I record is equally impressive, boasting an average of 45.55 and a striking 171.55 in 60 matches.
Yadav’s potential to uplift the team’s morale and inject dynamism into their performance is undeniable. As Mumbai Indians traditionally ascend in form as the season progresses, Yadav’s presence could catalyze a resurgence, transforming them into formidable contenders once again.
Amidst speculations regarding Rohit Sharma’s potential return as Mumbai Indians’ skipper, Yadav’s return offers a glimmer of hope and excitement to fans eagerly awaiting a turnaround in the team’s fortunes. If Yadav can replicate his past heroics, Mumbai Indians stand poised to emerge as a force to be reckoned with in IPL 2024.
