ILT20 becomes first Associate-run franchise league to get ‘official’ List-A status

The ILT20 which is based in the UAE has achieved List A status from the ICC which is a notable recognition just ahead of its second season. This means the tournament is officially acknowledged as a T20 league, and all the statistics from the competition are now officially recognized. The league expressed gratitude to the ICC for this acknowledgment, considering it a significant achievement and a boost for the league.

David White, the CEO of the ILT20, remarked on the importance of earning List A status, considering it a clear indication of the league’s strength and stature. The league is set to commence its second edition on January 19 and will conclude on 17th February. Despite overlapping with other T20 leagues like BPL, SA20, BBL, Super Smash, and potentially the PSL, the ILT20 has attracted notable T20 stars such as David Warner, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Alex Hales, Shimron Hetmyer, Chris Jordan, Trent Boult, Nicholas Pooran, Chris Woakes, Maheesh Theekshana, and more.

ILT20 features six teams

The ILT20 currently features six teams, with three of them (Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, Dubai Capitals, and MI Emirates) owned by groups with IPL team ownership. The first edition was won by Gulf Giants, led by James Vince, who emerged victorious against Desert Vipers in the final.

The ICC giving List A status to ILT20 is like a big stamp of approval for the league. It shows that the tournament is now officially recognized in the world of T20 cricket, making it more credible. As the league gears up for its next season, this official status adds a real sense of authenticity to what the tournament has achieved so far.
