Ashwin touched by Rohit's 'beautiful' gesture in Rajkot: 'I'd give my life for him on the field'

R Ashwin, the Indian cricketer, recently shared a heartfelt tribute to his captain, Rohit Sharma, for his exceptional support during a challenging time. Ashwin, who reached a significant milestone by taking his 500th wicket and playing his 100th Test match against England, faced a tough situation during the Rajkot Test.

Ashwin achieved his 500th wicket on the second day of the match

On the second day of the match, Ashwin achieved his 500th wicket, a moment he had eagerly awaited. However, shortly after, he received distressing news about his mother’s health emergency. Unable to reach his family at first, he finally learned that his mother had collapsed due to a severe headache.

Feeling overwhelmed and torn between his responsibilities to the team and his concern for his mother, Ashwin struggled to process the situation. He felt the weight of leaving his teammates with a player short if he returned home. Yet, his primary concern remained with his mother’s well-being.

Despite the uncertainty, Ashwin decided to briefly return home to Chennai to be with his mother. However, upon seeing her condition improving, he felt compelled to rejoin his teammates in Rajkot. With the help of BCCI secretary Jay Shah, Ashwin managed to return to Rajkot swiftly.

Upon reuniting with the team, Ashwin played a pivotal role in India’s victory in the Rajkot Test and their subsequent series win. His gratitude towards his captain and the support he received during a difficult time was profound.

Through his emotional journey, Ashwin highlighted the importance of family and the unwavering support he received from his loved ones and teammates alike. His dedication to both his family and his team exemplifies the strength of character and resilience that defines him as a cricketer and a person.
