Mumbai Indians’ skipper, Hardik Pandya, recently opened up about the captaincy change that stirred the franchise when Rohit Sharma was replaced by him as the leader. Hardik, who hails from Gujarat Titans and joined Mumbai Indians through a trade, expressed his feelings in a press conference held by the team on Monday.
“It feels amazing to be back. Since 2015, Mumbai Indians has been like a second home to me. Playing at the Wankhede Stadium, which is my favorite ground, is surreal,” said Hardik, reflecting on his return.
Regarding the captaincy transition, Hardik emphasized that he doesn’t foresee any awkwardness between him and Rohit. He acknowledged Rohit’s stature as the captain of Team India and the success Mumbai Indians achieved under his leadership. Hardik mentioned that he expects Rohit to guide and support him whenever needed, considering their long-standing association on the field.
The remarks made by Hardik
“I’ve played my entire career under Rohit’s captaincy. I know he’ll always be there to guide me. He’s been a fantastic captain, and I aim to continue the legacy,” remarked Hardik.
Furthermore, Hardik confirmed his return to bowling for Mumbai Indians this season, addressing concerns about his previous limitations due to injury. Despite the mixed emotions from fans regarding the captaincy change, Hardik emphasized focusing on things within his control and respecting the fans’ sentiments.
“I’ll be bowling this season. While I value the fans’ emotions, I can only concentrate on what I can do on the field. I appreciate their support, but my focus remains on leading the team effectively,” stated Hardik.
Regarding his communication with Rohit since the captaincy change, Hardik mentioned that they haven’t had a substantial conversation due to Rohit’s ongoing commitments. However, he expressed his intention to catch up with Rohit once he rejoins the team.
“I haven’t had much opportunity to speak with Rohit since he’s been away. But I’m looking forward to reconnecting with him once he’s back with the team,” said Hardik.
So basically, Hardik Pandya’s return to Mumbai Indians as the captain brings a mix of excitement and anticipation. Despite the captaincy change, he remains focused on his role and aims to contribute effectively to the team’s success while cherishing his bond with Rohit Sharma.
