During the recent Cricket World Cup 2023 match between India and Sri Lanka, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah took a wicket on the very first ball of the game, sending Pathum Nissanka back to the pavilion. Even though Sri Lanka went for a review and checked the decision after the umpire declared out, it was still a big moment for Bumrah and the Indian team in World Cup history.
This is the first time any Indian bowler has achieved this feat in the history of ODI World Cups. India went on to win the game by a margin of 302 runs, in which Mohammed Shami emerged as the pick of the bowlers. He took five wickets in his 5 overs by giving away just 18 runs to ensure that the Sri Lankan middle order was completely shattered.
Shreyas Iyer returns to form
After a bit of a rough patch, Shreyas Iyer played excellent on the ground, scoring 82 runs off 56 balls against the not-so-tough Sri Lankan bowling. He hit six sixes and three fours, helping India get back on track and cross the 350-run mark despite the early exits of Gill and Kohli.
During the game, Dilshan Madushanka showed his bowling skills, and he took five wickets for 80 runs in 10 overs. He got some important players out, including the captain Rohit Sharma. He showed he’s good at using slower cutters and bouncers effectively later in the match.Early in the game, there was a moment of worry when Dushmantha Chameera missed catching a return from Kohli.But after that, the partnership between Kohli and Gill got better and they managed to score an impressive 189 runs together, setting a new record for India in this World Cup.During the game, Kohli played well and scored 88 runs off 94 balls, hitting 11 fours. Unfortunately, he got out because of a mistimed shot. Gill also did a good job, scoring 92 runs off 92 balls, with 11 fours and two sixes. He was close to getting a century, but he couldn’t manage a bouncer from Madushanka and got out, missing his chance to reach a hundred in the tournament.
